Recipe sites
McLearen Kitchen reads recipes from web pages the way a browser does. It does not keep a list of allowed sites: any page that carries the standard recipe data (Schema.org, the JSON-LD most recipe sites publish) imports in one step, and a page without it is read from its own headings.
What the importer reads
- The recipe's name, picture, servings, times, ingredients and steps from the page's Schema.org data.
- When a page has none, the ingredients and steps under the page's own headings.
- A roundup or a collection page: every recipe linked from it, offered one by one.
- A post shared from the phone, with the recipe the post links to.
Your sites
Settings › My sites keeps the sites you import from most. They become one-tap shortcuts on the website import screen, each opening inside the app with “Import this recipe” ready.
Saving to MyRecipes
The app can save a recipe that has a web page to your MyRecipes (Allrecipes) account. MyRecipes keeps its own list of the sites it accepts, about 1,800 of them; the app knows the list and says up front when a site is not on it. The list is MyRecipes', not ours: MyRecipes: saving recipes from around the web.
Sites that block readers
A few sites refuse automated readers. The app says so and opens the page in the browser instead, where you can copy the text into the app.
